Services I offer: complimentary half hour consultation on the telephone or in person to gives us a chance to see if we are a good fit for counselling together. You are under no obligation to continue. If my practice is full or I feel I may not best meet your needs, I can refer you to one of my colleagues. If we continue together I will provide consent and policy forms to be completed prior to our first session. In our first session I will ask questions and prompt you to share reflections to generate insight and the direction for us to continue on. I will provide suggestion to how we may further proceed and together we shall assess, if any, of the other MODALITIES I offer can be of service to you. You will be supported throughout to listen deeply to yourself and communicate your needs, desires and understanding. Additional Modalities. I have found that the therapeutic process can sometimes be enhanced by incorporating creative, exploratory experiences. You will have the opportunity to discover yourself anew through movement, posture, vocalization, writing, song writing, tactile creations, therapeutic gardening, yoga and/or theatrical representation. I will never ask you to do anything you’re not interested in trying as the work is intended to extend your understanding of your inner self. To help move through stagnation, confusion and frustration to more fulfilling states of being. But it will start with and return to your own innate interest and willingness. You will be continuously reminded to notice and listen to your own truth as the primary navigational tool. Our bodies are often a short cut to understanding patterns that are no longer useful, and provide insight into new ways of being and expressing what is most needing to be heard. There is a vast intelligence and esoteric understanding available when we are willing to brave the discomfort of exploring our uncharted, inner terrain. It is my intention to create a space where you feel safe and supported to be seen and heard.

Equine Facilitated CounsellingEquine Facilitated Counsselling is an experiential psychotherapy that is facilitated by a (qualified) mental health professional with horse experience (EFMHA, 2003). At Shamrock, we combine our formal education as mental health professionals, science, and research to provide a therapeutic basis for adding horses and nature to our therapeutic work.Horses are masters of non-verbal communication. They teach us about trust, respect, and boundaries, which we bridge to our clients' lives off of the farm. When people are met with the non-judgmental and forgiving eyes of a horse, it helps create an emotionally safe environment where it is easier to invite desired change and accept help.In many ways, our equine facilitated counselling provides everything that traditional clinical counselling (see below) does, with the addition of a horse,Traditional Clinical CounsellingTraditional counselling is typically thought of as “talk therapy”, with the addition of play and expressive therapies as appropriate. We use a variety of therapeutic approaches, including narrative and cognitive behavior therapy. It is our belief that each client’s needs are unique, and the work that we do in very dependent on the needs of the people we work with. Although we have an entire horse farm to make use of, we also have inviting therapy rooms for those who prefer to be inside.Specializations:ChildrenTeensAdultsCouplesFamilyAnxiety & DepressionTrauma & PTSD RelationshipLife StrugglesGrief & Loss Addictions

It is challenging being a human! Regardless of who you are, your religious views, your gender, your income—suffering, confusion and heartache are part of life.  However,  counselling can turn these difficulties into  opportunities for growth, healing, and transformation. With a Masters degree in Counselling Psychology, I work as a Registered Clinical Counsellor. My approach to therapy is Holistic because, true well being occurs when body, heart, mind  and spirit are integrated. I have a special interest in a holistic approach to depression and anxiety, and existential concerns.I am inspired to  cultivate  “unconditional positive regard” for my clients. Depending on the individual, and  their situation, I draw on a array of techniques such as narrative, solution-focused, cognitive behavioural, somatic and mindful based therapies.Mindfulness  informs my work.  Rather than being lost in a story, we can  pay attention to what is happening in the present moment. By slowing down and focusing on the here and now, a deeper level of truth arises.  It’s exciting that the  research on  mindfulness and neuroscience is burgeoning. Neuroplasticity, the brain’s ability to rewire itself, indicates that change is possible on any level, at any age, under any conditions.Cognitive Behavioural Therapy  is a natural complement to mindfulness practice. While mindfulness cultivates a non-reactive awareness of thoughts and emotions, Cognitive behavioural therapy addresses the content of our thoughts. It is often,  our distorted thinking  that creates suffering. When we can change our thinking pattern, we change our perception of ourselves and the world.I am fascinated by the body and it’s inherent wisdom. I have been teaching Yoga since 2001.  I am highly skilled at observing the body and what it is expressing.  As a Yoga therapist I use simple yogic practices to help manage anxiety and stress.  I’ve also been studying somatic work for years. Somatic work is extremely effective in dealing with trauma, regulating the nervous system and accessing other realms of deep knowing.I am also very passionate about Couples Counselling and the Emotionally Focused Therapy model developed by Sue Johnson.  It’s very inspiring to work with couples as they let their guard down, show vulnerability and move closer to authentic connection. For individuals wishing to transition gender, I provide hormone readiness assessments. It’s important to choose a counsellor that you feel comfortable with and trust. I offer a free 30-minute initial consultation..
