Chebucto Art Therapy & Counselling Centre
Our MissionCATCC provides quality clinical services and art therapy education harmonized with best practice, and professional ethics. Through CATCC we help promote arts-based wellness and holistic practice that is sensitive to culture, diversity and context. Our approach involves guiding people toward self-discovery through collaboration and support as well as setting and reviewing goals. People of all ages, through the creative process of Art Therapy, can explore personal issues and feelings more deeply and safely than with words alone. This, together with counselling helps people to acknowledge the past, manage current situations more effectively and actively work towards a more positive future.Art TherapyArt therapy combines the creative process with psychotherapy, facilitating self-exploration and understanding. Using imagery, colour and shape as part of this creative therapeutic process, thoughts and feelings can be expressed that would otherwise be difficult to articulate. The creative process helps people to acknowledge the past, anticipate the future and learn how to handle life experience or struggles more confidently. My integrated approach includes attending to verbal and non-verbal process. Depending on people’s readiness this can involve deep work. However for brief work I tend to be solution focused and encourage resiliency. I also engage counselling as guiding people towards self-discovery, as well as setting goals, collaborating and supporting. Genuine connection, safety and trust are key aspects.Developmental issues are important to consider because it helps to understand the role of defensive adaptations and alleviate suffering. Art Therapy can be sufficient and / or can serve as an adjunct to counselling.Services are suitable for all ages (children, youth or adults), with individuals, dyadic work, couples, or with groups.Education:We provide workshops, presentations, and professional development opportunities; and sometimes, in collaboration with KATI (www.kutenaiarttherapy.com).
