Peggy Margaret 's Story
I’m 63 years old. Chronic pain for 40 years. Disk degeneration noticed on Xrays in my 20’s. My job over the years and the repetitive motion of it contributed to the pain significantly. I developed chronic fatigue in my early 30’s. Despite that, I needed to try to make a living, so I worked a second business for many years, went back to school twice, got 2 diplomas. My adrenal glands burned out but I continued to push myself beyond my limitations because I had no choice financially but to keep going. I’ve had multiple housing challenges due to chemical sensitivities etc and have moved over 30 times in my life. Multiple stressors continued to play havoc with my health.
In my early 50’s I withdrew from a prescription medication that left me with nerve damage in muscles. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia which has multiple symptoms, multi level degenerative disk disease along with osteoarthritis forming more as I age. On most days I have pain in my muscles, joints and disks and often find it hard to walk, especially taking buses and not having a car. I tire easily. My social life has been significantly impacted. I feel I have little support from friends and family. They cannot possibly begin to understand what it is like to live in my shoes.
I do know that having a clean diet and taking nutritional supplements are a must for my conditions. Despite all of these stressors I am determined to continue to try to dig myself out of a poverty hole that my health has put me in. Until then I am grateful for any support and help that I can receive. Once you lose your health, you often lose your finances. It can become a full time job managing health and finances. I am grateful for little bits of support here and there and try to remember those in gratitude on a daily basis. My spirituality keeps me going. HOPE is a big word.
