R. Corbett Counselling and Consulting
Halifax Counselling, Anxiety, Depression, Family Dynamics, Transgender support
It is the mandate of R. Corbett and Consulting to advocate for the mental health of clients as one of the pivotal paths to overall happiness and quality of life. It has been said by many professionals that, "if you don't have good mental health, then you have no health!" Everyone needs help sometimes. Asking for help is not a sign of weakness; rather it shows strength and courage; a desire to be whole and happy.
I have a particular passion to work with transgender and gender questioning clients of all ages. I have received training to write HRT letters for my clients and am part of a supervisory team through the IWK Transhealth Team.
It is my mission to sit with, listen, reflect and support choices and or changes that promote acceptance and improve overall quality of life. Life happens to everyone; it is how we choose to accept and cope with challenges that moves us forward in a new direction with strength and a new perspective.
About R. Corbett Counselling and Consulting
I was born and raised in a small fishing town in Newfoundland and the third born of 7 children. Our parents taught us the value of hard work, the importance of giving to others and most important of all, (in my mind), that family relationships - those you are born into and those you choose along the way - are essential to shaping who we become.
I graduated from Memorial University with my BE.d in the fall of 1994 and travelled to British Columbia where I began my first teaching job. I moved back to Nova Scotia in the summer of 1997 and have been working as an Elementary Teacher with the HRSB since1998, teaching all grades Primary through grade 6.
In 2010, I began my masters in counselling through Acadia and graduated in the fall of 2013. As an educator, I have always worked hard to develop a good rapport with my students and their families. As a Counsellor, I value these family connections even more as they are an important layer to the “big picture” of understanding a client’s story and with building a trusting, genuine therapeutic relationship.
