Practitioner Bio
Here's My Education and Training: Once upon a time I was a teacher, (so I have a Bachelor of Education degree.) Then I studied Massage Therapy, and learned: Anatomy, Physiology, Neurology, etc, so I could help people solve their physical problems. But, I wanted to help adults solve their real problems, their biggest most difficult problems, that they haven’t been able to solve on their own, and help them make their lives better in ways that are life-changing for them, and those they love.
So, already being a very educated person, I surveyed the top 50 forms of therapy, from Freud to Positive Psychology, to see which therapies made the most sense, and which were most effective. Having done that, I first chose to study Neuro-Linguistic Programming, (NLP) because it was touted as being highly effective. NLP was developed by modelling what the most effective therapists of the time actually did, that made them so effective, and combined their thinking and techniques. That included: Dr. Milton Erickson, founder of Ericksonian therapy, father of modern coaching, and the #1 hypnotherapist. Dr. Virginia Satir, founder of Family therapy, Dr. Fritz Perls, founder of Gestalt therapy. Knowing how to do what they do, formed a great basis for helping people improve their lives.
Here’s my NLP training: In 2004 I took two NLP Practitioner trainings, one in Canada, and one in California. In 2005 NLP Master Practitioner training. In 2006 NLP Trainer training. After that training, I learned about life coaching and I took the two best trainings I could find: My 1st Coach Training: Robbins-Madanes Training, Tony Robbins is the Master of personal change, and NLP is where Tony started too. This training helped me understand how to do what he does. Dr. Cloe Madanes is a Phd. and a top 20 therapist, and has trained over 100,000 therapists in how to be effective. These two are acknowledged masters in their fields. Each has their own complimentary approach, and I became an even more effective coach by learning their approaches.
My 2nd Coach Training: Strategic Intervention Institute Mark and Magali Peysha are partners with Tony and Cloe at Robbins-Madanes. They also run their own institute in Santa Barbara, and train coaches in effective Strategic Interventions. Taking their live training gave me even more tools, and helped me be a better coach. With a clear understanding of the thinking behind effective coaching in place, I’ve done a lot of additional reading and study on my own over the years, which I continue doing.
My coaching library consists of over 100 books. I also self-studied Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and completely understand the thinking behind it. (a lot of those ideas are also found in NLP) Studying Dr. John Gottman’s work (of the Gottman Institute) gave me a great understanding of the attitude and behaviours that actually make relationships fail, or succeed, and I bring his practical insights into my Relationship Coaching, and I can teach you how to stop doing what kills relationships, and do more of what makes them work!
So, my combined: formal education, NLP and coach training, on-going self-study, life experience, (I’m 58) and my professional experience, make me one of the most highly trained and capable coaches around. All my knowledge enables me to help people make their lives better, far quicker than they ever could on their own.
